Dans is plezier, expressie, vakmanschap, verbeelding en reflectie. Dans raakt de kinderen op school, laat jongeren dromen en biedt een groeiend publiek unieke ervaringen. Dans hoort bij een volwaardige provinciale cultuur.

Toch dreigt professionele dans te verdwijnen uit Fryslân. Ivgi&Greben, werkt sinds 2021 als enige professionele dansgezelschap in Fryslân maar krijgt na de financiële steun voor de opstartperiode, geen meerjarige subsidie voor 2026–2028. De provinciale adviescommissie beoordeelt het achtkoppige gezelschap en de plannen als van hoge kwaliteit, maar geeft toch geen prioriteit aan dans.

Ivgi&Greben heeft in de afgelopen vier jaar een danspraktijk opgebouwd die in Leeuwarden en Fryslân een groeiend aantal liefhebbers bereikt en met de tournees een dertigtal steden door het hele land bespeelt. Er waren druk bezochte voorstellingen in alle Friese theaters en op Terschelling tijdens Oerol. Het team en de choreografen Uri Ivgi en Johan Greben, de jonge dansers, brengen kinderen en jongeren in beweging, geven studenten aan de dansopleiding sturing en maken het plezier in dans aanstekelijk. We werkten al samen met Tryater, Opera Spanga, JDOF en Oerol, en er zitten nieuwe, veelbelovende samenwerkingen in de pijplijn.

Ivgi&Greben geeft de dans in Fryslân, vanuit Fryslân, een eigen gezicht.

Als het gezelschap nu voortijdig stopt, verdwijnt het bovenste segment van de keten. Je haalt op dansgebied in één keer SC Heerenveen én Cambuur uit de competitie. Dat raakt niet alleen ons als gezelschap, maar het hele veld van dansende kinderen, amateurs en danspubliek tot het artistieke en culturele veld van de podiumkunsten in de Noordelijke provincies.

Let Dance flourish in Fryslân!

Dance is joy, expression, craftsmanship, imagination and reflection. Dance touches children at school, lets young people dream, and offers a growing audience unique experiences. Dance deserves a rightful place in a fully-fledged provincial cultural scene.

Yet professional dance is at risk of disappearing from Fryslân.

Since 2021, Ivgi&Greben has been the only professional dance company based in Fryslân. However, following initial financial support for its start-up period, the company has not been awarded multi-year funding for 2026–2028. The provincial advisory committee assesses the eight-member company and its plans as high-quality, but still chooses not to prioritise dance.

In the past four years, Ivgi&Greben has built a dance practice in Leeuwarden and across Fryslân, reaching an ever-growing number of enthusiasts and touring more than thirty cities nationwide. Their performances have filled theatres across Fryslân and captivated audiences on Terschelling during Oerol. The team, including choreographers Uri Ivgi and Johan Greben and a group of young dancers, inspires children and young people to move, mentors students in dance education, and spreads the joy of dance infectiously. We have already collaborated with Tryater, Opera Spanga, JDOF, and Oerol, with promising new partnerships on the horizon.

Ivgi&Greben gives dance in Fryslân – and from Fryslân – a distinctive identity.

If the company is now forced to stop prematurely, the top of the dance ecosystem will be lost. It’s the cultural equivalent of pulling SC Heerenveen and Cambuur out of the league in one go. This affects not just us as a company, but the entire landscape — from dancing children and amateurs, to dedicated audiences and the broader artistic and cultural stage in the Northern provinces.

We call on the provincial government: invest in dance.
