An end and a beginning: Ivgi&Greben keeps creating
The province of Fryslân has rejected our appeal. The permanent company as we have built it over the past years will cease to exist. That is a hard decision — for us, for our dancers, and for professional dance in Fryslân.
And yet: we keep making.
Ivgi&Greben continues as a production company, on a project basis, with the people who understand and carry our work. The form changes. The drive to make dance and move audiences does not.
What disappears
The core of a permanent company — our own dancers, staff and ongoing activities structurally embedded in Frisian society — will cease to exist. And with it, professional dance as a permanent presence in Fryslân. That is a loss for the province, and for us.
What remains
We are working hard on ‘Not Yet‘, our new Oerol production, to be seen from 12 to 21 June on Terschelling. Made possible in part by a crowdfunding campaign and the overwhelming support during the benefit evening at De Harmonie in Leeuwarden.
On 29 January 2027, ‘What We Leave Behind’ premieres, also at De Harmonie. The production will be performed 27 times across the Netherlands and Germany.
The dance studio at the Blokhuispoort in Leeuwarden has grown over the years into a working and meeting place for makers, dancers, interns and educational activities. That space is an indispensable factor in the conversations we are now having with various parties about the future of dance and talent development in the North.
We feel enormous support — from our audience, our partners and fellow makers. That support gives us the energy to continue, even if the form is different from what we had hoped.
