LabWeek
LabWeek is an 8-day residency where..
all dancers and the entire artistic team of Ivgi&Greben collaborate with invited choreographers. From 30 October to 8 November, we welcome the duo Maxime Abbenhues (Netherlands 1997) and Mees Meeuwsen (Netherlands 1998) of Collective MAMM from Amsterdam to the studio.

Collective MAMM
Maxime and Mees met during the Urban Contemporary Dance programme at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), where they both graduated in 2020. They found common ground in their love for partnering and acrobatics. Together, they have created six dance pieces – mostly duets they performed themselves, as well as short pieces for festival locations. Their work revolves around the complexity, contradiction, and superficiality of their generation and the phenomenon of ‘being in your twenties’. It portrays how they, as young adults, view the world of today.

Transitions
Maxime and Mees are now approaching thirty. This brings with it the desire for new work with more dancers and longer performances. During LabWeek, movement material is developed from acrobatics and contemporary dance. They explore the artistic possibilities that arise when choreographing for eight to nine dancers – twice the number of dancers they’ve worked with previously. We also focus on the transitions that connect acrobatic movements and dance phrases. In the interaction between acrobatics and dance, this is the main tool to link movements, phrases (sequences of movement) and sections of the choreography. By using transitions, the choreographer creates a specific effect and meaning. This can be done, for example, by varying the duration of the transition – gradually or abruptly – or by playing with complexity, from simple, like a plié before a jump, to an entire movement phrase.

Through this collaboration with our dancers and coaching from the choreographers and the dramaturge, we hope to give the artistic development of Collective MAMM an inspiring boost.

We warmly invite you to attend this studio presentation. You can reserve a place by sending an email to publiciteit@ivgi-greben.nl, stating the date, your name, and the number of seats. We kindly request that reservations be made by 6 November. The event starts at 7:30 PM. Doors open at 7:00PM
